We're here to help bring life-saving Pre-Hospital Whole Blood to your EMS agency
Pre-Hospital Whole Blood is truly the latest and greatest treatment to come to EMS. No other intervention has improved mortality rates in the Pre-Hospital setting like whole blood transfusions, in some cases mortality rates from have improved from ~70% to ~20%! We're here to help bring this life-saving treatment to your EMS agency. More.
Hemorrhage is the leading cause of preventable death in trauma, and nothing is better at replacing blood than... blood! When patients need blood, they need it right away, which means pre-hospital. A recent study has shown that for every minute blood is delayed, mortality increases 11%! More.
EMS Blood Consultants are here to help bring whole blood to your EMS agency. We consult on local blood bank interaction, logistics, storage and transfusion equipment, education, protocols, costs, reimbursement, and data collection. More.
Hi, I'm Kenneth Pippin. I'm a Lieutenant, Critical Care Paramedic, and Medical Officer for a fire department in central Texas. My agency has had Pre-Hospital Whole Blood for almost 5 years now, and we use it often. I have personally seen it save so many lives, and my hope is to see it available nationwide someday. I started EMS Blood Consultants to help achieve this through customized problem-solving and training. More.
🩸 STEP 1: Get LTO+WB from your local blood bank. A rotation program is definitely preferred. This can be by far the most complicated part of the process.
🩸STEP 2: Get a cooler. There are 3 that I currently recommend: the Credo Pro Med, the Delta ICE, and the Delta APRU.
🩸 STEP 3: Get a warmer. There are currently 2 that I recommend: the QinFlow Warrior Lite and the Quantum from NAR.
🩸 There are A LOT more details to figure out and pitfalls to avoid, but that’s where we come in.
I had a chance to stop by the QinFlow booth at EMS World Expo 2024 in Las Vegas and got an in-depth look at their New Warrior Lite Blood and Fluid Warmer. The original Warrior is the OG of prehospital blood transfusion and this smaller Warrior Lite just improves upon that model. Great battery life (up to 6 units of blood) and great flow (up to 200ml/min) make this a great option for prehospital blood transfusions, and one of the select few that I recommend.
Check out this new blood warmer that just hit the US market: the M warmer from MEQU looks to be small and simple! MEQU is based in Denmark. This warmer has been in use in Europe for some time and just received FDA 510k clearance.
At EMS World Expo with the North American Rescue Quantum Blood Warmer 🩸 This is a simple unit that warms blood up to 100ml/min and it’s great for prehospital transfusions.
I stopped by the Delta Development booth at EMS World 2024 to checkout their new blood coolers: the Delta Ice and the Delta APRU 🩸🚑 these have some great new features, including an integrated app that tracks temps and even GPS to keep those blood bankers happy!
Checkout the LifeFlow rapid infuser at EMS WORLD EXPO. This device will flow blood faster than a pressure bag. It’s great for dialing in the appropriate amount of blood for pediatric patients. This is a great addition to the QinFlow or MEQU Blood Warmers. It also works as a stand-alone fluid infuser. It is not compatible with the Quantum Blood Warmer.
Quick demo of the QinFlow Warrior Lite Blood Warmer. 🩸🚑 This is one of the two options I recommend to make prehospital blood transfusions easy. This one can infuse WARM blood at about 200 ml/min! Fast! (Only thing I would add would be a pressure infuser) Giving blood in the field isn’t complicated! I have no financial connection. My opinions are my own.
Quick demo of the North American Rescue Quantum Blood Warmer. 🩸🚑 This is one of the two options I recommend to make prehospital blood transfusions easy. (Only thing I would add would be a pressure infuser) Giving blood in the field isn’t complicated! I have no financial connection. My opinions are my own.
The Credo ProMed Cooler is a great cost-effective option for transporting whole blood in EMS. I have no financial connection with the manufacturer. This cooler keeps blood or blood products at 1-6 celcius for 12-24 hours and is simple to use.
First impressions of the PAX Blood Cooler Bag and comparison to the Pelican Products Credo ProMed. 🚑 🩸 Both are great options and available from North American Rescue, Bound Tree Medical, and other distributors. I am not affiliated with either company or any distributors, my opinions are my own, and prices given are estimates.
